Haryana’s importance in travel and tourism has been better felt by numerous tourists who visit the land owing to its salubrious climate and attractions like hills, tanks, and forests. The state is studded with century-old monuments, temples, gardens and other attractions viz. Golf tourism and Adventure tourism.

The state, also called as “the Madhyama Dis” (middle region) of the Later Vedic Period (c. 800-500 BC) was the birthplace of the Hindu religion. This was the area where the first hymns of the so-called Aryans were sung and the most ancient manuscripts were written. The epic battle between the Kauravas and Pandavas, recorded in the Indian epic poem, the Mahabharata, took place at Kurukshetra - a place of religious importance in Haryana.

The tourism department of the state is concentrating more on the development of the sites which are of historical as well as of religious importance. The state has set up many tourist complexes, hotels and camping sites in landscaped gardens to promote tourism. Haryana has one of the most successful tourist development programs led by the state tourism department. The tourist complexes, which have a large number of visitors, are named after the species of birds found in the state. Most of the tourists who come to India pass through Haryana.
